Melasma treatment
I'm a dermatologist and I have melasma.
It may not be noticeable in my videos and photos. But every morning I wake up and look in the mirror: it's there.
When the first spot appeared on my cheek, I couldn't believe it. I had already studied the subject extensively and treated many patients with melasma; I couldn't believe this was happening to me. In 2009, I treated 347 melasma patients with laser treatment in 6 months. That's not counting all the other patients who weren't candidates for the procedure at that time. The large volume of these patients meant I had to study extensively to stay updated on treatments.
But when I saw my first birthmark, my interest in the subject became personal as well.
Melasma is an inflammatory skin condition characterized by increased pigmentation, but also by increased blood vessels and accelerated skin aging in the affected area. Its origin is likely genetic and linked to excessive sun exposure in the past, and it has several stages of worsening. It's a chronic condition with fluctuating symptoms.
What I want in the treatment of my patients is the same as what I want for myself: less visible and smaller blemishes.
Watch the video below where I talk a little about this subject. You can also access my Instagram and see the highlight about melasma, which I constantly update with the latest news.
